She was the youngest ever runner-up and placed second in the contest. When she was in 2012, Angelica Hale was just 4 years old, she was very sick due to double pneumonia. This was due to a serious strep bacteria infection. Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Egleston was forced to place Angelica Hale onto ECMO Life-Support because she required life-saving medical interventions. The patient became sick, and suffered organ failure including kidneys which did not heal. It was her new normal to have hemodialyses and peritoneal-dialysis. After eighteen days in hospital, at a point when she was close to death, and began the long road back to health. The way she lived her life was forever altered. Angelica was, following a full one-year dialysis treatment and a half-year of dialysis, was now set to undergo the biggest surgery of all: a kidney replacement. Angelica's mom was the only one with the ability to give an organ. Angelica Hale underwent a successful kidney transplant together with her mother on 13th September 2013. The operation was carried out at Emory University Hospital, and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Egleston. Angelica Hale pursued her dream of being a star ever since.
